ABOUT
The Edward Alexander Bouchet School photovoltaic (PV) power system was installed on the roof of the building completed in 1893 and located at 7355 South Jeffrey Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60649. The school was named in honor of Dr Edward Alexander Bouchet, the first African-American to receive a PhD, and the sixth person in the Western Hemisphere to be awarded a degree in physics.
Bouchet is a Math and Science Cluster Academy in Region 5. The school has 130 full-time employees, of whom 87 are faculty. The student population of 1,525 spans from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The building has about 95,000 square feet of inhabited space and is occupied on school days from 7:30AM to 3:30PM by staff, 8:50 AM to 2:30 PM by students. Technically, the school is on nine-month schedule, however, over the past few years, summer classes have had up to 400 students.
